The Woodlands is a master-planned community located just to the north of the Houston city limits in Montgomery County, Texas. The Woodlands remains a census-designated place that has possible plans of incorporation in 2014, once the cities of Houston and Conroe release them from their extraterratorial jurisdiction.

History of The Woodlands

Founded in 1974, The Woodlands real estate was developed over former Grogan-Cochran Lumber Mill land. The Woodlands was designed to include the environment in its design, to keep in unison with the beautiful forestry the area is known for. Over the years, more and more businesses have made their way into The Woodlands, including Chevron Phillips, Hewitt Associates, Chicago Bridge & Iron and Lexicon Pharmaceuticals. Fine shopping and dining establishments have also developed over the years and the city has its very own waterway that resembles the River Walk in San Antonio.

The Woodlands Education

Students residing in The Woodlands real estate attend public schools overseen by the Conroe ISD, Magnolia ISD and Tomball ISD. The Woodlands' public schools have been recognized repeatedly for their academic achievement by the Texas Education Agency. In addition to their Blue Ribbon public schools, The Woodlands offers exemplary private schools for students ranging in age from preschool to high school seniors.

Things to see and do in The Woodlands

The Woodlands real estate makes the most of its natural surroundings by providing an abundance of parks and playgrounds to its citizens. Any day of the week, you'll find families gathered together in the park, enjoying the day and each other.

The Woodlands Country Club offers some of the most outstanding golfing in the area. The country club's courses include the 27 hole Palmer Course (designed by Arnold Palmer himself), the Signature Player Course (designed by Gary Player), the 18 hole Tournament Course (designed by the nationally renowned von Hagge-Devlin design firm) and several Canongate Courses. There are also 21 tennis courts available for the tennis phenom in everyone, both indoors and outdoors for year round play.

The Club at Carlton Woods is another country club located within The Woodlands community. This private club offers more amazing golf opportunities through its Jack Nicklaus Signature Course and Fazio Championship Course. Highly experienced instructors are available at The Carlton Woods Golf House to help you improve your game. Tennis, fine dining and socializing are also important experiences at the Club at Carlton Woods.

Canongate at The Woodlands offer very affordable memberships that include its great golf courses. Membership also allows you to play at some of the other golf courses in the area.

In addition to the fantastic country clubs in The Woodlands, you can find great dining, movies and shopping. The Cynthis Woods Mitchell Pavilion is an outdoor theater that hosts musical acts that include everything from Bach to rock. Every spring, The Woodlands offers free Concerts in the Park at Northshore Park. The Woodlands even has its own symphony orchestra that performs regularly.
